A serving police officer was found to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in respect of ‘discreditable conduct’ and dismissed.
PC Julian Watkins, who is based at the West Area Basic Command Unit, had been convicted of common assault by beating at City of London Magistrates’ Court.
The incident originally 20 October 2018, when PC Watkins assaulted a detainee at Polar Park Custody Suite. PC Watkins was sentenced to 120 hours’ unpaid work requirement and a community order. He was then also ordered to pay £500 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £85 victim surcharge.
Yesterday (Tuesday, 6 August), the Chair found the allegations proven as gross misconduct. Police say that PC Watkins was dismissed without notice.
