New figures reveal that religious hate crimes in London have hit their highest levels 12 months following the Christchurch mosque shootings, police data has revealed.
There were at total of 1,630 hate offences recorded by the Metropolitan Police in March alone this year, a worrying statistic.
156 were Islamophobic hate crimes, which is almost double the number recorded the previous month.
Islamophobic attacks that happened in March included a man being hit over the head near a mosque in east London, and a woman who has said that she had her hijab ripped off by a fellow passenger at a London tube station.
The BBC reports that the almost six-fold increase in reports was a reaction to the shootings at two mosques on 15 March which left 50 people dead.
They also state that the Metropolitan Police has not yet commented on its figures.
