A man has been arrested after allegedly barricading himself inside a flat in London and threatening to blow it up.

The four hour ordeal resulted in the man being detained on suspicion of criminal damage and intent to endanger life at Earlsdown House, Barking.

The building was evacuated by police at 10:20pm and no injuries were reported.

Police and negotiation officers had to force their way into a flat on the seventh floor. The ordeal ended 01:10am when the man was detained.

He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution in relation to a pre-existing medical condition.
