The humpback whale that was spotted in the river Thames over the weekend has sadly passed away it has been confirmed.

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue were the ones to confirm the news as they reported seeing it as ‘lifeless in the water’ near Greenhithe.

The whale had been swimming back and forth from Tilbury to Erith. Some people, including experts had hoped it would find its way back out to sea.

Sightings of the mammal were reported in stretches of the river in east London over the weekend, prompting warnings to boats, the whale will now have to be removed.
