Pc Stuart Outten, 29, who suffered serious stab injuries to his hands and head after a vicious attack in Leyton shortly after midnight last Thursday, has been discharged from hospital.
He was treated by colleagues and paramedics in Leyton High Road before being taken to hospital with the injuries.
Muhammad Rodwan, 56, appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of Pc Outten and possession of an offensive weapon. He will appear in court again in September.
PC Outten’s family have issued a statement saying they are “overwhelmed” by the love and support shown by the general public.
They said: “We are incredibly proud of the bravery Stuart showed during the incident.
“His injuries could have been fatal and we are thankful that he is stable and recovering in hospital with his loved ones around him.” The statement was made prior to him leaving hospital.
