A gas explosion at a block of flats in Wandsworth has left four people injured this morning.
Please have stated that at they were called at approximately 07:25am this morning (31 July) police in Wandsworth were called to Garratt Lane, SW17 following reports of a gas explosion. Upon arrival they found a wall to a block of flats damaged following the explosion.
One elderly man was taken to hospital and three other people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Police have put a cordon in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Sergeant Jon Nicolaou from South West BCU said: “We now know four people have been injured as a result of what is believed to be a gas explosion. Three of those were treated at the scene for minor injuries. An elderly man has been taken to hospital for treatment. The Health and Safety Executive will be informed in due course and the Gas Board are at the scene now. They will be investigating the cause of the gas explosion which is believed to have taken place on the ground floor. All emergency services continue to work together at the scene along with the local authority.”
