A video that has been uploaded and shared across social media showing police arresting a man for suspicion of obstruction of the highway, assaulting police and resisting arrest has divided opinions.
Police have said via their website (news.met.police.uk) that “officers concerned recorded the incident themselves via their Body Worn Video cameras as is normal practice. Police in Tower Hamlets are talking to and listening to the local community.”
Yesterday (Tuesday, 9 July) Police officers had attempted to speak with a man regarding his car which was obstructing the highway and other motorists police say.
The man then declined to move his car and refused to provide officers with his driving licence. He was then arrested on suspicion of obstruction of the highway, assaulting police and resisting arrest and two officers at the scene received minor injuries.
However, in the video uploaded by Best World on YouTube, they state: “The man parked on a single yellow line after 5:30 with a disabled badge on his car. The police told him to move and then assaulted him with his wife and disabled child in the car.”
It continues “Eyewitnesses say that the police car stopped and a police officer responed by stating that he was under arrest. They further state that the man’s wife asked if they could discuss this and the officer insisted that the driver was under arrest because your husbands ‘attitude stinks’”
The matter has now been referred to the Central East Command professional standards unit.
