A new railcard launches in London next week providing 16 and 17 year olds in the capital a huge 50% off rail fares it has been revealed.

The card is called ’16-17 Saver’ and will be available to anyone that age, its valid until your 18th birthday. The card itself goes on sale on Tuesday 20 August and will cost £30.

Once bought, the card is valid until 2 September, and can be used on standard class tickets only. The card will be marketed towards young people whereas the 16-25 Railcard is at leisure travellers.

The Department for Transport says 1.2 million young people will qualify, and are “set to make average savings of £186 every year” the Independent reports.
